Events

The Bionic Panthers compete in both the BEST and FIRST Robotics competitions. The BEST event takes place in the first semester of the school year, and the FIRST event takes place throughout the year, but we primarily focus on it once BEST season is over. Both events have their own merits and challenges, making them unique and extraordinarily fun to compete in.
Here are the differences in the competitions: 

©BEST Robotics

  • The BEST Robotics competition involves multiple areas of competition, including the design and performance of the robot, the quality of the team's engineering notebook, the team's presentation skills, and the design of the team's exhibit
     

  • The robots in the BEST Robotics competition are typically smaller in scale compared to those in the FIRST Robotics competition. This allows for a greater emphasis on design and engineering skills rather than raw power and size.
     

  • Participants in the BEST Robotics competition are provided with a kit of parts from the event organizers. This kit includes a variety of materials and components that teams can use to design and build their robots.

FIRST® Robotics

  • The FIRST Robotics competition is primarily focused on the design and engineering of the robot, with teams competing to see whose robot can perform the best in a series of tasks.
     

  • In the FIRST Robotics competition, teams are not limited to using a specific set of materials or components to build their robots. This allows for greater creativity and flexibility in design.
     

  • The FIRST Robotics competition is a large-scale event, with teams from all over the world competing against each other. The robots in this competition are also generally larger in scale compared to those in the BEST Robotics competition.
